Okay! i have heard many many issues regarding lag and/or internet connection speed while playing combat arms. All is not lost.
fortunately there are tricks, tips and tweaks that one can do to optimize thier computers performance and speed. One of the first things to do would be to
set the priority of Combat Arms.
1) hold down ctrl + alt and hit delete to bring up your operating systems menu, and select 'Task Manager'
2) With the task manager now open, select the processes tab... this will reveal (HOPEFULLY!) a small list of running processes.
3) search for Engine.exe and just to make sure it is CA make sure that the Engine.exe is using processing power. How can you tell? you will see constantly changing numbers on the same line as Engine.exe, (Please note: For Vista users, you will need to DISABLE your User Account Control and be running as administrator. For any help with this, please contact me)
4) Once you have confirmed that Engine.exe is running and using processing power (Please note: Combat Arms MUST BE RUNNING in order for you to do this, so you will need to minimize the game window before hand), simply right-click Engine.exe and hover your mouse over 'Set Priority' from there you just select the priority status you want your program to run in. Personally since i love CA with a passion mine is set to real-time.
Though this will not permenently fix anything and everything, its just a trick, its only supposed to slightly help, not provide a cure. But at least lag wont be as harsh.
I will be posting more hints, tips and tricks later on in the future, as time allows
I do hope you have found this article somewhat informative, like stated before if you have any questions dont hesitate to contact me.
Here is a small list of things one could do to help ensure they have a healthy, speedy computer...
1) Perform Disk Cleanup and wipe your C drive of crap it doesnt need in there.
2) Disk defragmentation is very important, keeping your files, folders and programs organised will help your computer perform more efficiently. (i set mine to defrag once a week, every week.)
3) Thruogh the 'Control Panel' find 'Programs and Features' and remove any unwanted, and un-needed software. Freeing up space on your computer gives it more room to breathe and run around and play in the dirt, you want a happy computer right?
4) Windows Theme: some people think the vista's new operating system is better than the previous ones? WRONG! its more laggy and chokes the life out of your processor to do all those unneccesary actions that DO NOT BENEFIT YOU! changing your theme to windows classic will definately make your comp happy.
5) DESKTOP: OMFG this is one is important. I have seen so many people with like 24876598245 icons on thier desktop, makes me wanna cut my wrists.
Okay, hypothetical situation here.... lets say Bob just bought the newest, bestest game out there in the market aside from being a CA fanatic.
Bob installs this new game software and tells the program to install itself right on Bob's desktop (lets imagine this game was like.... 10 gigs in size)
NOW.... Bob has 2 folders, a launch icon and a shortcut cluttering in his desktop... but Bob is a bitch, and he doesnt care.
SO.... next day bob turns on his computer... now Bob scratches his head in total wonder, why his beloved computer, is now running significantly slower!!!
the moral of this story? the more shit you have on your desktop, the slower, more lag-responsive it will become. (find a good place to put all your desktop programs and icons, the documents folder works great, or even using the program files folder right off of c drive would be good too)
